Commands & Colors: Ancients |

Commands & Colors: Ancients is a fun, fast moving game of ancient battles. It is the third "Commands & Colors" game, though the first one to have the system name in the title, and is on the more complicated side of the various titles in the series (complexity is a very relative term, here). There have been six expansions (2 and 3 have since been combined into a single one), each with a number of scenarios depicting battles from various periods in ancient history. Like with other titles in the series, you have a fairly plain board divided into three sections for purposes of issuing orders through the play of cards. Terrain may be introduced through the use of tiles on the board, but as armies tended to try to find flat, clear spaces to fight, this is somewhat rare. Differences in types of units provided (of which there are many) and the size of your hand provides all the asymetrical bits; goals are usually the same: eliminate a set number of units before the enemy does. The system currently covers from the early battles of Greek-city states to the early Byzantine period of about AD 500. There is talk of a future Biblical-period expansion, but so far, that's been out of scope. I also have a page for the similar Commands & Colors: Medieval.
